Zwartowo Solar Park

Zwartowo Solar Park is a landmark 290 MWp utility-scale solar development in Poland, setting a standard in technical expertise and renewable energy ambition. KRD Renewables served as technical advisor, providing independent assessment of project bankability, technical risk and regulatory requirements. Our services helped deliver a successful energy asset of continental significance, with a capacity of 290 MWp and an output of 230 GWh per year. The solar farm is located near the town of Zwartowo in northern Poland, approximately 65 km north-west of the city of Gdansk.

A comprehensive technical due diligence programme was undertaken to provide an independent assessment of the project’s design, technology, contracts, grid connection, energy yield, construction programme, land arrangements and financial assumptions. The review extended across the project’s Suntech PV modules, SMA central inverters, mounting structures and associated civil and electrical infrastructure.

THE CHALLENGE

Technical scrutiny identified areas requiring attention, including potentially underestimated electrical cable losses, outstanding grid-compliance studies and gaps within elements of the geotechnical and foundation design documentation. The construction programme also required careful assessment as delays shifted the anticipated provisional acceptance date, while maintaining sufficient contingency against contractual, PPA and subsidy milestones.

Projects such as Zwartowo demonstrate the importance of independent technical advisory and due diligence in large-scale renewable energy investment. By challenging assumptions, analysing alternative scenarios and translating complex engineering, contractual and grid issues into clearly defined risks, technical advisors provide investors, lenders and developers with the evidence needed to make informed, bankable project decisions.
